Ashish Autumn Winter 2009

I found Ashish's AW 09 collection really cool! The theme for the collection was also circus. But it had that quirky London coolness that is present in Louise Gray's designs too. Which is why I've decided to blog about it. The garments are bright clashing, and uber cool.

Test shoot 2 and make up test

Today we met up with our model for the first time, Becca who is a 2nd yr fashion atelier student. We shot some video clips trying her out on camera and I played around with the make up to get that "clownish" look. This took place at Claudia's house, in which her bedroom will be used for the opening scene of our movie.

Make up inspiration...

As Im doing the make up and hair I've decided to go for a sweet and cute looking clown rather than the ones you normally see with huge red lips and a red ball for a nose. I saw this image online and thought that it would be quite nice to try something similar

"The Chicest Show on Earth"

While researching, I came across this amazing fashion shoot which stars Jessica Stam and is photographed by Laspata DeCaro. I like the unusaul blue hue that is often not used in fashion shoots. The clothing featured in the story however does not relate to circuses at all, they're all classic designs and cuts, hence the name of the editorial: "The Chicest Show on Earth". Although the images are stunning to look at, I feel that the poses and look of the model does not incaptivate the fun and crazy side of the circus. I've put this shoot in my blog, because certain aspects of the shoot relates to our vision for our film, for example the ballons and the clowns...

Dog Days...

Florence and The Machines have a song called "Dog Days", the girls and I were really inspired by the theme, location and decor etc, in their video, which features Florence waking up in the woods, which has bunting all over the place as well as wierd people dressed in carnival style clothing. I really thought that this would be a great video to keep in reference, especially because we've decided to shoot in the park...

Colours, Textures and Techniques...

Louise Gray's work always feature bright and bold colours. She also specialises in embelishment and simple cuts and shapes. The designer also likes to play with texture as well as seen on many of the collections especially her lastest collection on her coats.

Balloons!!

After looking at these fashion advertisements online we had a group discussion, about our theme and what we want in the film, we decided that we wanted to use balloons and bunting etc for our props to go with our "clown" look.

Spinning Idea..

An idea we're considering to try out for the film, I couldn't find a good example so this was the only decent one that show the effect it gave. I apologize for making you watch this in advance! :)

Louise Gray collaborations...

While researching, I found that Louise Gray collaborated with Asos and The Smiley Company.

Visual Brain Storm...

While thinking of a concept/theme for the film that would suit best with both the mood and the designer I decided to look at clowns because of the their bright and bold coloured costumes and also because they're supposed to be "funny" (although now thanks to hollywood they are now considered as scary and creepy), I also looked at fashion's take on clowns and their make up, and also circus like images.

Designer, Mood, Technique

I was given the London designer Louise Gray as the designer that I would shoot the film for. Louise Gray is a London based designer who graduated from Central St. Martins, and became known to the fashion world after showing her work with Fashion East at LFW for three seasons.

Her collections mainly feature bold and bright hues with embellishment and colour contrast as the main specialism in her work.

Images shown are from the collections Spring/Summer 2009, Autumn/Winter 2009/10 and Spring/Summer 2010.

The mood I was given was Funny and the camera technique was Spinning.

My partner and I decided that the latest collection from Louise Gray (S/S10) would be best suited for the given mood and technique, with bright bold colours and fun ribbon accessories and prints.
